Frequently Asked Questions

Is it required that my family dentist must send a referral to the orthodontist for an appointment?

No, it is not. Many of our patients are referred by their family dentist, yet other patients are referred by family and friends who can take the initiative to schedule an examination themselves. top

At what age should I schedule an appointment for an orthodontic screening?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic screening at the age of 7. By this age, several permanent teeth in most children have erupted, thus allowing us to effectively evaluate your orthodontic condition. top

What is an Orthodontist?

An orthodontist attends an additional two years in graduate school beyond those required for general dentistry. top

Will my teeth straighten out as I grow?

No, they will not. The space available for the front teeth does not increase as you grow. In most people, after the permanent molars erupt, the space available for the teeth decreases with age. top

How do I schedule an appointment for an initial exam?

Simply call our office or send us an email with your appointment form completed and we will be happy to schedule an appointment for you. If you choose to call us, our fabulous front team will request some basic information from you. top

What will I learn from the initial appointment? How long will it take to complete treatment?

Treatment time is based on each patient's specific orthodontic needs. In general, treatment times range from 12-30 months. The "average' time frame for braces is approximately 20 months. top

Will I be able to play sports?

NO!! Shots are not necessary in orthodontic treatment. top

Do I still need to see my family dentist during orthodontic treatment?

Yes! Regular checkups with your family dentist are important while in braces. top
