Brace Care

Eating with Braces

Although the adhesive used to attach your braces to your teeth will withstand the forces of eating, they can become broken or dislodged with certain foods. Each time you break or loosen something, your treatment time is delayed. Yikes! The following are foods to avoid throughout braces:

Try to eat by cutting food into small bite-sized pieces. ( For example: apples, carrots and pizza ) You must also cut the corn off the cob and pull the rib meat or chicken off the bone.

Caring for your Braces

Clean your teeth and braces thoroughly everyday by brushing and flossing even more than you ever did before. Don't forget to use your fluoride rinse to help prevent white spots from developing on the teeth. If you feel general soreness in your mouth, it's absolutely normal! You can relieve your soreness by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water. If a sore develops on your cheek, place a small piece of wax over the bracket until the tissue toughens. Discomfort is normal during the first few days as new pressure from the wires are being placed on the teeth.

Hang in there!!
